As of mid-March, schools shut down due to COVID, and now as of August schools have been opening up. School has mostly started for everybody in the country. Whether or not you are in person or at an online school, there have been problems occurring throughout the education system:
1. Technical Issues
It may be obvious, but technical issues are one main problem that online students are facing. One time before during online school, my laptop started glitching that I had to restart my whole computer and wait for a while. After that the teacher would mark me absent as I wouldnt be there when she would be taking attendance. This frustration adds up which reduces the amount of engagement in the classroom while disrupting the learning experience.
Possible Solution: Keep in touch with your teachers to inform them what is happening with your Internet. They will most likely understand and will be able to help you out. Another solution is keep other unnecessary tabs closed. Having too many tabs open can contribute to a spotty WiFi.
2. Distractions and Time Management
By learning from home, more distractions are going to be around you. Maybe it's your siblings or your phone. With these results of distractions, time management can get more and more difficult.
Possible Solution: Try building a schedule for yourself. What I personally do is make up a schedule that will fit my time availability and add it in my planner and Google calendar so I remember when to do it. For staying away from distractions, try sitting somewhere quiet. This could be your backyard or anywhere else in your house. Try not bringing your phone along with you. What I do is give my phone to my parents so I won’t be able to get it back.
3. In-Person Training
To the people who have in-person training or hybrid it’s getting harder and harder. Staying six feet apart at all times. Masks on. And about five people in class. Even though learning in-person is easier, it is not helpful. Rumors were spread online that some students or staff had tested positive in a school in Georgia. The next day a warning went out for the teachers to stay quiet about it. All schools are supposed to notify parents, students, and staff if somebody tests positive, but not all schools are doing that. This is super harmful to the people in-person because they can get sick. If schools don’t notify people, the disease control will become more difficult.
Possible Solution: If you have an option to take online or hybrid think about possible problems you will encounter.
