As there is a technological advancement in the areas of communication, machinery infrastructure and
the growth in the need of capability to handle huge data and information, Artificial intelligence in all
seems to solve all these problems and provides better inputs and solutions at times than a person in the
same area. However there has to be an analysis, ethically and socially, about the rise of AI in almost all modern industries.
As AI is being tested and currently being implemented at a small scale, it has given many concerns to the employees working in white collar environments about their job security and wage growth. As AI is seen to better and ‘smarter’, this has scared the current working class about mass retrenchment and
unemployment with their jobs. As the world population demographic keeps increasing, there have been ideas and debates about the next generation whether or not will there be a presence of a sustained
income from one job. This problem has been cited by multiple heads of MNC’s like Elon Musk who
warned against “summoning the demon,” envisaging “an immortal dictator from which we can never
escape.” There have also been warnings of the loss of employment in the blue collar sector as AI can
practically using its intelligence and logistics can replace almost 80% of all manual work done by
laborers. The best example of this can be seen in the Middle East where the UAE recently implemented the smart police station completely running on AI without any human support at all.
There has also been a questioning of its ethical use by certain countries who claim to have started using it for positive purposes but the dynamics may change with the change in ideology, leader or party. AI has also started a cyber-war between several powerful nations and has contributed to the huge leak of confidential documents and data from some countries. The cyber war with the help of AI grows steadily in its danger of threatening security and leakage of data. The biggest fear perhaps in every humans mind is the relationship between AI and man. AI with its super intelligence has the capability to virtually change its thinking, in a way mutate itself with its intelligence and fast learning in order to become more self-reliant and independent. If the intelligence grows out of proportion then it may spark a war between man and AI in the future. However AI is controlled properly and allowed to think independently to only a certain extent, it would prove beneficial to all of mankind. However it would take several years, keeping in mind the failure of several driving tests by AI and its other functionalities in several fields, for AI to grow and steady research is being undertaken in order to control it and use it for good purposes.
The conclusion can be reached that with proper control AI can prove to be a game changer but if not
then a colossal danger.
