Is Technology creating a Microwave-society?

By Nicholas Perry

Technology has been an imperative role in society as we continue the evolutionary chain of human beings. Although technology indeed has many beneficial roles, it also has so many unfavorable roles, that as human beings, we simply cannot ignore. Today, we are going to discuss if technology today is affecting our ways of living a life where everything isn’t “at a click of a button and instant” and the role it plays on the subconscious mind.

According to UMass Amherst, which surveyed 6..7 million users, showed that viewers most likely abandon videos if they take more than two seconds to load, and many users tend to stay on a single webpage to read only 20%.

According to a Emma Taubben at pace University,  Many companies are taking advantage of our “instant gratification” needs by offering same day delivery services. Walmart, ebay and amazon are making huge buckaroos by being the fastest at a “instant gratification system” because they figured out people will pay more money for faster delivery. The “instant gratification system” has brought itself into YOUR house by offering faster internet speeds and eliminating commercials.

Whether it waiting for those instagram likes or that darm amazon order that doesn't want to get to you, the “instant gratification system” lies in your ear “I want it now” or “Its useless writing a good report for 6 months” or even the terrifying “Why risk it all over 5 to 6 year when you can stay at your comfy job”, people are hardwired for instant gratification.they want it now.  With the help of technology, just posting a facebook photo, or a instagram pic or a tweet allowed for positive reinforcement of this “instant gratification hyperreality”, it promotes just waiting, refreshing that instagram story seeing if grandma likes your cat playing with the new scratch post you got for him.

So in conclusion, yes, technology is a wonderful thing and I cant wait to see where it takes us 1000 years from now, but like everything else, technology has its fair share of instant gratification. For some, you might agree with me, but for others, I might as well be a barefoot hippie in the desert talking bout a flood. But, regardless of what you think, I am not going to let instant gratification take over every one of my thoughts.
