Education in it’s traditional form has always been essentially a class room and wall-
board learn learning concept. Technology, however, has changed this scheme of things altogether. With the advent of Laptops, mobile and tablets along with the digital learning curriculum specifically designed to cater to the needs of the learning community, face of education has changed multifold. With the help of simulations and virtual reality, it is a matter of seconds to arrange for Digital field trips, science experiments, and even historical expeditions. It not only saves the time, money and logistics involved as compared to real events, they can also be replayed at will.
EdTech enhances collaboration among the students. They can share ideas and solve
problems with other students around the globe working on similar problems, enabling sharing of cultural values, experiences and diversity. Distant learning has become easy and fruitful with the help of technology. Latest, we saw technology helping students continue with their education without major disruption during the COVID19. Had, technology not been there, millions of students would have lost a precious year of their education life.
Zoom, and other video calling apps helped students and teachers create a virtual
classroom like environment and continue with the education in the safety and comfort of their homes. With the advancement of Technology in education, it has become possible to give every student a personalized teaching experience, as per the needs of every student and can also be framed as per their strengths and weakness, which is not humanly possible for any teacher to do.
Technology encourages self paced learning, also the same lecture can be reproduced and replayed again and again, as many times and to as many students as required. In a traditional classroom, few students who struggle to understand the concepts can advance at their own pace. It is possible to access all the study material at any time. It is not uncommon to see several students learning while taking a ride on Metro to and from their schools, help them save a lot of valuable time. Since, the education material is digital, it does not take up much space and can be carried around easily and used while on the go. AI can also make trial and error learning less destructive and more safe as compared to real experiments. It improves communication skills among students, Web-enabled classroom, enhances comprehension and a deeper understanding of global realities. It helps them learn empathy for others, find new ways to engage, and build a desire to take part in actions that make a difference.
Technology has it’s psychological benefits as well, of which increased motivation and
self esteem has been reported by the teachers world over. Students with special needs like those suffering from autism are reaching new levels of learning through the use of robotics in the classroom. They learn communication and social skills. Whereas, students with developmental issues and attention disorders are learning focus. Simulators are able to offer students with special needs an introduction to real world
scenarios in a non-threatening environment. They can be taught at a comfortable pace, a variety of subjects ranging from basic self- care to stay-safe techniques in emergency situations. Education, with the hep of technology has come far from it’s traditional outfit of class room and Boards and Markers.
