The Corona Pandemic has put majority of the world on their laptops for their day to day work and the
educational, scholarly and teaching worlds are no exception to this obvious fact. Teachers are introducing new methods of teaching within the online premises and in the scholarly world, more people are attending such conferences at the comfort of their homes. However the question arises to whether how viable will it be in the future and with the Covid-19 Pandemic showing no apparent signs of slowing down, it is a genuine and valid question.
E-learning before the pandemic was slowly becoming an important part of the virtual world but it has
been accelerated to a great extent without any proper check. It is a great way to learn different knowledge without any interruption and broadens the horizon of students and attendees with the lack of crosstalk between the students. In many institutions, E- learning had been implemented as a part of their daily routine and all assignments were sent through online means and work was done online by students. However, some schools in some countries did have little or no experience in online education and with the unexpected arrival of the pandemic, those schools have frankly struggled to adjust to this new methodology of teaching.
Keeping in mind that human interaction is important in the effective and proper way of teaching, the complete transfer of institutions towards the online medium seems illogical to many experts and teachers. Human and live interaction is important to the growth of the bond between peers and teachers and the peers themselves but e-learning also accommodates more students in one arena as compared to the traditional classrooms and also helps in reduction of the fees paid to the institution as a result of the removal of factors like transport, furniture, etc.
With this, the problem of the attention of the students comes up as some students fail to pay enough attention with online education as the interaction factor is amiss as well as the examination factor where any students on a normal basis are caught cheating in normal classrooms are now basically given access to all relevant information without any proper balance of checks even with applications being put in by several schools and zoom meetings being conducted simultaneously many of the times to no avail. E-learning should be implemented to an extent and an appropriate balance must be present between live and online interaction. Examinations and classroom teaching should be normal while all assignments and assessments can go virtual. Certain classes can be shifted to the online premises and its effectiveness most likely won’t be compromised.
With the uncertainty still in the minds of everyone it is likely the reverting back to traditional means of teaching will take time and will prove to be a difficult process due to the social distancing factor and extra work from the teachers. All one can do is wait and watch
