Artificial intelligence has been developing rapidly throughout the century. Humans are currently
applying artificial intelligence and machine learning to all aspects of their lives from art to health to
food. One portion where artificial intelligence has been applied is sports. Artificial intelligence is bringing
sports to the next level. Statistics is a big part of sports and always has been. Now, artificial intelligence
is bringing new trends, insights, and data on development and competition.
One of the most important ways artificial intelligence is being implemented in the athlete’s lives is the
measurement of development. Sensory processing machines and tracking devices are being used to
measure how much a player is running, how high they are jumping, and how their health is with
measurements such as heart rate and breathing sensors. Many athletes are using measurements vests
that have tracking devices that could be looked at after play to better conversations on improvements
between trainers, coaches, and athletes. Aside from this, artificial intelligence is now looking at athletes
off the field as well. One of the main uses are eye sensory measurements. Artificial intelligence is
assessing eye movements and reaction time to make a personalized training program for the athlete.
Athletes are now looking at ways to improve their development that they never have looked at before.
Another way artificial intelligence is being used for sports is through the insights of competition. Now,
coaches and teams have access to recorded videos of sports games as well as players statistics. Coaches
are now using these tools to better prepare their teams for what is to come on game day.
Artificial intelligence is also being used with broadcasting and media. Better statistics and insights are
not only helping competition and athletes. They are helping media make predictions of games and make
better background knowledge information on the teams as well. Statistics and insights are being used to
make scientific predictions of winning. Of course, this is not 100% accurate because sports are so
unpredictable and dependent on so many factors, however, technology is now implementing science
into sports.
