AI and Sustainability: The Confluence

Updated: Jun 8, 2020

Artificial Intelligence has come with machines that has brought a new perspective of quickness, efficiency, and adaptability. Artificial intelligence has been giving a power to compute and recognize patterns that could often be surpassed by the human eye. It has become a dominant reliance of humans to be used as problem solvers as human error cannot be involved. One of these problems could be the protection of nature.

Artificial intelligence has the capability of monitoring our preventive plans, understanding the damages being done, and prevent future damages by looking at what we could do now.

Regarding our land, pollution and soil degrading are damaging issues that must be resolved. Most of these problems are caused by agriculture. Artificial intelligence is being used to change agricultural practices to make them safer and more environmentally friendly. It can reduce the amount of fertilizers and chemicals used by directly working with crops, making practices more efficient and protecting ecosystems and habitats. Natural disasters are also a problem regarding our land. Artificial can predict natural disasters more precisely than humans and can allow officials to make better decisions regarding preventive strategies.

Regarding our air, air quality issues and pollution need to be monitored by artificial intelligence. Artificial intelligence can allow government officials to make quicker more efficient decisions and allow for better understanding of the issues to develop beneficial preventive strategies. Artificial intelligence can also detect air quality issues such as a gas leak and reduce these issues. To reduce pollution issues, AI can create technology and strategies that will allow the use of renewable energy.

Regarding our water, ocean water is being polluted and drinking water issues need to be solved. Artificial intelligence has allowed for better understanding of the detrimental effects of human actions and changing conditions. It has allowed for efficiency in predicting and monitoring factors for scientists. Artificial intelligence also has the capability of improving water management systems and understand water maintenance needs.

Overall, artificial intelligence can be used and has been used to improve our land, air, and water to allow for sustainability.
