Our world is being transformed by new innovations and technology emerging all around us. One of the results of emerging technology has been artificial intelligence. To fully understand how artificial intelligence is impacting society, we must first know what exactly artificial intelligence is. Artificial intelligence is the capability of smart machines to perform tasks that humans can complete. This can include playing games, learning to speak, and problem-solving. So, how can AI affect society? AI can affect society in both positive and negative ways.
Positive Impacts 1. Mistakes are avoided: Computers, if programmed the right way with the right data, can avoid “human error.”Computers can be more reliable to achieve accuracy in their tasks as humans are not perfect and do not run on algorithms and pre-collected data processed into them. 2. Breaks do not exist: Humans must take breaks, have work shifts, and sleep. Computers do not need this! Computers can work all day and night. This can make more effective and easier work. Double the work is being completed using more time. 3. Faster Actions: Computers do not hesitate to make decisions and complete tasks. They work consistently without any emotional attachment towards the work. 4. Removes Human Salaries: Companies do not longer need to employ workers that have the responsibilities a machine can complete. Companies can reduce the human workers they use for their industry. Therefore, those salaries do not need to be paid and companies can save or invest that money.
Negative Impacts
1. Reducing Jobs: Our world is run by money. People need jobs in order to meet their daily needs. People are constantly trying to bring down the unemployment number, however, artificial
intelligence may bring this number up. Since humans would no longer be needed for
jobs, they would be unemployed. This could be devastating for humans around the
world.
2. Costly: Machines and computers may need reparations and updates consistently to make sure
that all is running the right way and jobs are being completed in the most effective manner. These reparations could be very costly, especially with more complex machines. If several complex machines need reparations in a short time frame, companies could be in trouble. This could even possibly put companies in debt or out of business.
3. Lack of Unique Thinking: Machines are run on data and directions by humans. They cannot come up with new and exciting ideas that humans can. Humans can think outside of what is already known, but computers do not. Machines may not be the most effective way to put an idea out there. It can make things societies repetitive.
4. Changing Privacy: Humans have manners and policies in place to keep our privacy and security safe. However, how can humans truly know that machines are taking care of our privacy?
This could be a very big issue and may change our laws and rights.
