AI has had a large impact on how countries are dealing with the pandemic, COVID-19, over the last
months. AI has been used for prediction, screening, and drug research. As the months go on, AI has
been incorporated in many aspects of fighting this pandemic including communication, food delivery,
and contact with labs. For the most part, AI is filling holes of tasks countries were not prepared for
before the pandemic. However, this is slowly changing as more research is being built up and put into
data bases where AI will be helpful in the future.
As of now, a platform called Kaggle is hosting a CORD-19, which is a group of all relevant data of COVID-19 and adds to it continually. Kaggle is a machine learning and data platform so all the data is machine readable which means that it could be applied to AI whenever necessary. This data can also be shared on Kaggle to keep medical and computer scientists fully aware, stay informed, and make decisions based on data.
AI has already evolved in China where an AI algorithm has been released that could diagnose COVID-19 in 20 to 30 seconds using CT scans. It has also been used to look at CT scans of those diagnosed to measure health declines. This platform is spreading professionals around the world to help fight COVID-19.
AI was on the working of being able to bring rapid interpretation of medical scans. Studies have
suggested that AI use was already going to increase in the hospital and medical fields. COVID-19 will
accelerate that. There is a growing demand on processing tests, diagnosing, and communication
throughout the world with the most highly accurate and up to date data right now with COVID-19. AI
will be a key resource to use when the capacity of this demand can no longer be met with simply
humans.
AI has much more potential than what is being used now. Soon, AI will be used for more than diagnosis and treatment. It will be able to make quicker transactions and work processing to get people faster tests and appointments. It will be able to make for more effective health care systems and hospitals. It will be able to make health care benchmarks which will allow detection of potential pandemics much earlier. It could even be used to help make the cure or vaccine for pandemics.
AI has a growing potential and it is growing higher and higher in demand. AI has had a rapid acceleration of development because of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is much to hear about how AI will be used in the future.
